Poseidon Proposed as Health Risk Prediction Engine for Global Plastic Treaty
HSR.health’s geospatial AI solution brings open data platform to strengthen Plastic Treaty’s Health Pillar
Washington, D.C. – [August 12, 2025] – HSR.health, a U.S.-based health risk prediction company, has submitted its Poseidon Plastic Tracking System to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) during session 5.2 of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) tasked with negotiating a Global Plastic Treaty.
The proposal positions Poseidon, a geospatial AI platform, as a global open data resource to monitor, predict, and mitigate the health risks of plastic pollution, while laying the groundwork for Poseidon’s future recognition as a generator of plastic credits under market-based treaty mechanisms.
The proposal outlines how HSR.health’s Poseidon Plastic Tracking System, a geospatial AI and synthetic modeling platform, can help nations monitor, predict, and mitigate the health risks of plastic pollution.
“Poseidon brings scientific transparency and greatly advances the treaty’s health pillar. By forecasting who is most at risk, and why, we empower countries with the evidence to act decisively and protect their populations,” said Ajay K. Gupta, Co-founder & CEO of HSR.health.
Initially funded by the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), Poseidon was successfully piloted in the Arctic and is now expanding across the Atlantic and Pacific oceans with the goal of global coverage by year’s end. Key features of Poseidon include:
-
Real-time monitoring of plastic flows using Earth observation and ocean current models;
-
Health risk forecasting using current census and synthetic population modeling;
-
Open, globally available data access to support transparent, equitable treaty implementation.
HSR.health seeks philanthropic and public-private support to scale Poseidon globally and ensure the solution remains a free public resource providing open access to vital insights on the presence, movement, health risks of plastic pollution – empowering local communities, researchers, governments, conservationists, environmental organizations, and advocates with the data they need to act.
