Why ocean plastics are a human health problem
Plastic pollution is not just an environmental concern. It may also create exposure pathways that affect ecosystems, food systems, and human health.
Toxins are increasing across ecosystems and the food chain in part because of plastic pollution in oceans and waterways. Concern has grown that plastics, microplastics, and their associated toxins are entering fish and other sea life consumed by humans.
While the science is still evolving, research increasingly suggests these exposure pathways may create meaningful health risks. Poseidon was built to help identify where contamination may be occurring and where populations could face elevated risk.
